collage is playful remedy
in times where drawing has felt too intimate, too thoughtful, or even plainly a chore
it is breakable
it is childlish, I make stories as I play with the paper. it makes me “:-)”
it makes me want to point to and explain every piece of paper. “this is a skyscraper, this is a skyscraper, this is a large tree stump, this is where I want to live”
I seem to remember lots of illustrators making collage from offcuts earlier in my career. maybe I did this too. I never saw the 2014 Matisse Tate exhibition. nonetheless, here is mine. Another architectural scene, what I would be as an evil billionaire, or a Danish library
playing at the big table - on our ‘TYSM’ residencies I discovered the joy of making and sharing a table as you do so. I share a studio with six friends and it is so special but we each have our own workspaces, we work on our own things. Craving this sort of “play-date” I shared the thought on my instagram close friends and Seekan invited me to play collage with her and Lucy. I have been doing it every day since, for nine days straight. ᶜᵒˡˡᵃᵍᵉ⁻ᵗᵒᵇᵉʳ
I have been feeling domestic. I am indebted to life for - the lifestyle to be making things day to day - so I am trying to show my appreciation by doing it more than I may have recently. if I have the opportunity to go to the park whenever I wish, why would I not go every day? I draw kitchens but I also draw bears.
